Editorial: Three Years of CR Park Speaks
......And the Story Continues...
Today marks a special milestone for all of us at CR Park Speaks — we complete three vibrant years of chronicling, celebrating, and questioning the life and times of our beloved neighborhood. As we step into our fourth year, our hearts brim with gratitude — for every reader who paused to listen, every contributor who shared their voice, and every resident who believed in the power of community storytelling.
What began as a modest attempt to give CR Park a digital platform for reflection and connection has grown into a dynamic citizen-driven journal. From highlighting the cultural heritage that defines our locality to amplifying voices that might otherwise go unheard — CR Park Speaks has been both a mirror and a megaphone.
Over these three years, we’ve documented local heroes, delved into the rich heritage of our para, questioned municipal lapses, celebrated festivals with flair, and stood in solidarity during moments of crisis. We’ve spoken of the drumstick tree with its feathery guests, the forgotten lanes of history, the quiet revolution of waste segregation, and the art of everyday living.
More than news, we’ve tried to offer a sense of belonging — a shared space where past, present, and possibility meet.
As we move into Year Four, the journey ahead excites us. There are still so many stories to tell — of unsung changemakers, of green guardians, of old memories and new beginnings. We dream of expanding our reach, sharpening our reportage, embracing newer voices, and staying ever curious. With your continued support, CR Park Speaks will continue to be a neighborhood chronicle with heart and grit.
Thank you for walking this path with us — as readers, contributors, critics, and co-dreamers. Here’s to the journeys behind and those ahead. Let’s keep speaking, and more importantly — let’s keep listening.
With warmth and hope,
The CR Park Speaks Team

Welcome to Chittaranjan Park in Bloom
As winter recedes and the days grow longer, Chittaranjan Park (CR Park) bursts into full bloom. Nestled in South Delhi, CR Park is known for its Bengali cultural heritage, leafy avenues, and a warm community spirit. But come spring and early summer, CR Park transforms into a stunning oasis of colour.
๐บ Bougainvilleas Take Over CR Park
If there's one flower that rules the season in Chittaranjan Park, it’s the bougainvillea. Walls, gates, terraces, and lamp posts explode in vibrant shades of:
-
Fuchsia pink
-
Crimson red
-
Snowy white
-
Deep purple
Residents proudly nurture these sun-loving climbers. During a walk through CR Park, it's common to spot families pausing for photos under blooming arches of bougainvillea.
“CR Park in April looks like a floral dreamland.”
๐ณ Tree Blossoms: Laburnum, Amaltas, and Gulmohar in Full Glory
As we move deeper into spring, CR Park’s tree canopy becomes a dazzling display of blossoms:
-
Laburnum trees drape golden flowers over pavements like chandeliers.
-
Gulmohar paints entire streets red with its fiery petals.
-
Amaltas adds a soft golden shimmer, especially in May.
These trees aren’t just decorative—they form an emotional part of CR Park’s identity, giving shade, colour, and a place for birds to nest.
๐ธ CR Park Gardens and Parks: Floral Sanctuaries
From E Block Park to the Mela Ground and every small green pocket in between, Chittaranjan Park gardens come alive with:
-
Marigolds
-
Petunias
-
Zinnias
-
Cosmos
-
Dahlias
These parks become lively social spaces—perfect for morning yoga, reading under a flowering tree, or chatting on a bench amid blooms.
๐ฟ Private Gardens & Balcony Jungles in CR Park
CR Park’s green vibe isn’t limited to public parks. Residents nurture:
-
Jasmine and hibiscus in pots
-
Tulsi, lemongrass, and curry leaves in kitchen gardens
-
Sojne (drumstick) and mango trees in backyards
-
Rose bushes and bottlebrush trees on terraces
These mini jungles spill over gates and railings, bringing joy to everyone who passes by.
๐ฆ Birdsong and Wildlife in Chittaranjan Park
Spring in Chittaranjan Park is also a time of gentle noise—birds chirping, squirrels chattering, and the rustle of trees. Common sights and sounds include:
-
Koel’s sweet calls at dawn
-
Parrots flocking to fruiting trees
-
Shalik (mynas) hopping across terraces
-
Bulbuls pecking at flowers
With increasing awareness around biodiversity, many CR Park residents now place clay water bowls and bird feeders in their balconies.
๐ Culture, Colour & Festivals in Full Swing
Spring also coincides with several key cultural events in Chittaranjan Park:
-
Poila Boishakh (Bengali New Year) celebrations
-
Baisakhi and seasonal fairs
-
Community pujas under flowering trees
-
Market festivals with fresh mangoes and seasonal sweets
Under the blooming trees of CR Park, these festivals feel even more special, wrapped in the scents and colours of the season.
