Welcome to Joishtho – The Month of Nature’s Bounty
Joishtho—the second month of the Bengali calendar and the final stretch of summer—is named after the Jyestha star, the 18th constellation. As the season ripens, nature steps into full bloom: trees burst into green, flowering plants blossom, paddies sway, and markets fill with juicy, water-rich fruits. It’s a time when Earth offers her abundance to all living beings.
While Surya Dev (the Sun God) blazes down fiercely in many parts of the country, Indra Dev, the bringer of rain, isn’t far behind. This cosmic balance reminds us of a crucial responsibility: to protect and preserve this harmony. The best way to do that? Plant more trees. Let’s honour Indra Dev and keep Surya Dev in balance—green cover is the planet’s natural shield.
Climate patterns are shifting before our eyes. In Delhi, for instance, the scorching heat often gives way to sudden thunderstorms, bringing short but welcome relief. Even Rajasthan’s arid lands are seeing unexpected torrents of rain—phenomena that were rare or even unheard of just a decade ago.
Closer home, in Chittaranjan Park, every storm seems to bring the heartache of fallen trees—majestic life forms lost to wild winds. Which is why we propose a simple yet powerful initiative:
1 Person • 1 Tree • 1 Month — the 1-1-1 Pledge.
Let’s each commit to planting one tree every month. Just one. Imagine the transformation if every household in our neighbourhood took this up. Clean air, clean water, green spaces—this isn’t just a dream. It’s a responsibility we owe to our children, and theirs. Don’t we all want a safe and healthy planet for them?
So, on this World Environment Day, let’s make 1-1-1 our collective motto.
We would love to hear from you!
Write to us at crparkspeaks@gmail.com and share your thoughts, your pledge, or even a photo of your sapling.
Here’s to a summer of serenity, sustainability, and soulful connection with nature.
Happy Tree Planting!
