Earth Day Activities Proposal For CR Park Colony

Earth Day ( 22nd April) in Chittaranjan Park: Local Actions for a Greener Tomorrow

Team CR Park Speaks

This Earth Day, let us come together as residents of Chittaranjan Park to celebrate our environment and take meaningful steps to protect it. Located in the heart of South Delhi, our neighbourhood has a rich cultural legacy and a thriving natural ecosystem that deserves thoughtful care. From lush community parks to the age-old trees lining our lanes, there is much to preserve and nurture.

One of the simplest actions we can take is to plant native trees and shrubs that support local birdlife and pollinators. Residents can adopt the “Each One, Plant One” initiative—pledging to grow and care for at least one plant per household. The sacred sojne trees and flowering bushes like hibiscus and aparajita not only beautify but also attract birds and bees.

We can also set up a neighbourhood composting system to turn kitchen waste into fertile soil for our gardens. Reducing plastic use during daily market visits, especially in the CR Park fish and vegetable markets, will drastically cut down pollution. Cloth bag exchanges or jute bag drives can be introduced at community gates.

Youngsters can be encouraged to participate in poster-making, clean-up walks, and biodiversity mapping—making environmental care fun and educational. Local temples and schools can hold talks on water conservation and rainwater harvesting, particularly relevant during Delhi’s peak summer months.

The revival of neglected green patches can be achieved through community action and collaboration with the MCD. Replacing chemical pesticides with eco-friendly alternatives in our home gardens helps preserve soil and water health.

Let us also celebrate Earth Day by taking a vow to protect the birds and animals who call Chittaranjan Park home, especially the squirrels, parrots, and shalik birds that thrive here. Together, these efforts will ensure that our neighbourhood remains not just clean, but vibrantly alive for generations to come.
