Requesting Removal of Dhalaos

By Arundhuti Bhattacharya Secretary B Block Pragatisheel RWA

Chittaranjan Park today witnessed a peaceful yet powerful march highlighting a long-pending civic issue — the removal of dhalaos (open garbage collection points) as per regulations mandated by the Hon’ble Supreme Court to be implemented by 31st December 2024. Regrettably, despite the stipulated deadline having passed, no substantive action has been taken by the concerned authorities.

The existing dhalaos continue to function using outdated and unhygienic waste-handling techniques. Cleaning is carried out through old routine methods that are grossly inadequate for a modern urban colony. Even for these minimal services, residents are compelled to lodge repeated complaints with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and yet, regular and systematic action remains largely absent.

These dhalaos occupy and encroach upon nearly half the roadway space in several locations — including areas in front of schools, mandirs, hospitals, and even parks where our young children play. The situation has evolved into a perpetual civic and public health concern over the years, severely compromising hygiene, safety, and the dignity of residents.

It is important to note that Chittaranjan Park was the chosen venue visited by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during Durga Puja Ashtami last year. The area was impeccably prepared and maintained for the occasion. However, the contrast between that one day of preparedness and the continued unhygienic conditions faced by residents thereafter is stark and deeply concerning.

Through today’s march, the residents of CR Park have collectively raised their voice demanding:

Immediate removal of existing dhalaos as per Supreme Court directives.

* Installation of modern, scientific garbage collection and segregation systems.

* Relocation of waste collection points away from dense residential habitation.

* Implementation of sustainable and hygienic waste management practices to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.

CR Park stands united in seeking a clean, healthy, and dignified living environment. We urge the concerned civic authorities to take immediate and decisive action to address this long-standing issue.

CR PARK SPEAKS JUNE 2025

READ CR PARK SPEAKS JUNE 2025 Click This Button Welcome to Joishtho – The Month of Nature’s Bounty Joishtho—the second month of the Bengali calendar and the final stretch of summer—is named after the Jyestha star, the 18th constellation. As the season ripens, nature steps into full bloom: trees burst into green, flowering plants blossom, paddies sway, and markets fill with juicy, water-rich fruits. It’s a time when Earth offers her abundance to all living beings. While Surya Dev (the Sun God) blazes down fiercely in many parts of the country, Indra Dev, the bringer of rain, isn’t far behind. This cosmic balance reminds us of a crucial responsibility: to protect and preserve this harmony. The best way to do that? Plant more trees. Let’s honour Indra Dev and keep Surya Dev in balance—green cover is the planet’s natural shield. Climate patterns are shifting before our eyes. In Delhi, for instance, the scorching heat often gives way to sudden thunderstorms, bringing...
