Daylight Crimes Raise Alarm in CR Park

Daylight Crimes Raise Alarm in CR Park: Residents Demand Immediate Action

by Dr Anindita Roy (Ph.D), Design Educator & Citizen Journalist , Civic Media, CR Park Speaks

Chittaranjan Park, often known for its close-knit community and cultural vibrancy, has recently witnessed two disturbing incidents that have left residents concerned about their safety—even in broad daylight.

Chain Snatching Near Market 1

In a shocking incident around 4:15 PM, near Market 1, close to Bangiya Samaj, a woman became the target of a chain-snatching attempt. Two assailants on a motorbike approached her and forcibly snatched her chain and pendant.

Displaying remarkable courage, the woman resisted and tried to fight back. In an attempt to escape, the attackers allegedly tried to stab her, resulting in injuries. The brazenness of this act—occurring in daylight in one of CR Park’s busiest areas—has deeply unsettled residents.

Theft from Third Floor Residence in F Block

In another incident reported from F Block (House No. 1174, third floor), a gas cylinder was stolen around 6:14 PM. The resident, Mr. Anil Kumar, had stepped out briefly at around 5:30 PM, during which the theft took place.

What is particularly alarming is that the theft occurred in full daylight, from a third-floor apartment—an area not easily accessible without being noticed. Despite CCTV footage being available, the perpetrator appeared undeterred by surveillance, raising serious concerns about the audacity of such crimes.

Growing Concern Among Residents

These incidents highlight a worrying pattern—criminals operating fearlessly in daylight, in both public and residential spaces. The sense of security that CR Park residents have long enjoyed is being challenged.

In response, citizens came together to raise a collective voice and took their concerns directly to the SHO of CR Park.

The community is demanding clear answers and accountability on key issues:

  • What concrete steps are being taken to identify and apprehend the culprits?
  • How will the police ensure increased patrolling and visible deterrence in vulnerable areas?
  • What long-term preventive measures are being planned to safeguard residents?

A Call for Vigilance

While authorities are expected to act swiftly, residents are also urged to remain alert, report suspicious activity, and ensure that security measures such as functional CCTV cameras and secure access points are in place.

CR Park has always been more than just a neighbourhood—it is a community. At this moment, collective awareness, cooperation, and timely action are essential to restore the sense of safety that its residents deserve.

Save The Jahapanah Forest Of South Delhi

Jahanpanah , meaning the “Refuge of the World” was the fourth city of Delhi founded by   Mohammed bin Tughlaq. Though there are hardly any remnants of the new city   built by Tughlaq worth mentioning   , the forest itself is the much needed “Green Lungs” in the midst of the gasping populace living in the adjoining areas. It was on 10.04.1980, through a notification by the Development Department Delhi Administration in Delhi Gazette, Jahanpanah City Forest was declared as a protected forest area under Section 29 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 and the boundaries of Jahanpanah City Forest were demarcated. Jahanpanh Forest , covering an area of 435 acres, is full of rich and some very rare Flora and Fauna,   but unfortunately the jungle and its denizens   themselves are at the receiving end and chocking and gasping due to the apathy of the very populace it provides   fresh oxygen . Though several writs have been filed on various dates over the years , and...
